Janurary 9th-10th
The Joint Scientific Meeting of IEA Western Pacific Region and Japan Epidemiological Association was held at the Saitama Prefectural University.

The keynote speaker, Neil Pearce (President of the International Epidemiological Association) emphasized the importance of population perspective in epidemiology research, giving examples of research in which RCT-based paradigm developed for risk factor epidmiology did not work quite well. He urged us to adopt “multilevel thinking” as well as using multilevel methods of statistical analysis.
Mutlilevel methods of statistical analysis was the main topic covered in the Epidemilogy Seminar held the day before, and the packed audience of 100+ people listened in on the lecture. We were informed that “the times are changing from the days when you were only able to analyze repeated measurement data using methods such as two-way ANOVA.”

From our lab, the following poster and oral presentations were made.

  • Is Hyperkyphosis a Marker of Future Dependence in ADL?
Evidence from the Kurabuchi Cohort Study
    (Takehiro Michikawa)
  • 27 Years Observation on Physical and Laboratory Data of School Children
    (Erika Kuwahara)
  • Knee Pain and Future Self-Reliance of Older Adults:
Community-Based 3-Year Cohort Study in Japan
    (Yuji Nishiwaki)
