Since its founding in 1924, our department has pursued research in the field of environmental medicine/occupational medicine. There are currently two units of research activities running within this research area.
The figure below depicts environmental factors and health risk asessment/management. Our department is widely involved in various processes, including implementataion process of different industries, gathering of feedback information and public administration process; we mainly contribute to these processes by generating scientific data and determining exposure threshold limit values.
For a given research hypothesis, we conduct the most suitable research method, such as epidemiology, animal, and cell studies, and many of our research results have been adopted as?an evidence for exposure threshold limit value setting.
Some of the hazardous materials we have studied include:
- metals, such as lead, cadmium, indium
- organic solvents, such carbon disulfide, N,N-dimethylformamide, Hydrochlorofluorocarbon
- hazardous organics, such as toluene diisocyanate, acrylonitrile, sarin
- hazardous gases, such as semiconductor manufacturing specialty gas, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide
